We help each patient choose the best bariatric solution for their needs. Central Ohio Surgical Associates specializes in three safe, effective bariatric surgical procedures. Before surgery, each patient will undergo a thorough evaluation to determine eligibility for surgery. That evaluation will help our surgeons recommend the best treatment option for each patient’s unique needs.

Sleeve Gastrectomy

Sleeve gastrectomy is a laparoscopic surgery that uses several small incisions rather than one large one. During the procedure approximately 80 percent of the stomach is removed, leaving it in the shape of a tube or “sleeve.” Weight loss through sleeve gastrectomy is typically greater than with gastric banding but less than gastric bypass. If the surgeon believes the weight loss with this approach is inadequate, a second procedure to convert to a gastric bypass is sometimes employed.

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery

Gastric bypass surgery is a permanent, established procedure that results in faster weight loss for patients. The bypass procedure uses open, advanced laparoscopic and robotic techniques to make the stomach smaller and allow food to bypass part of the small intestine. As a result, patients feel full more quickly, and will eat less and consume fewer calories.

LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Banding System

The benefits of this minimally invasive adjustable procedure includes decreased risk of complications, shorter hospital stay, and faster recovery. With the LAP-BAND system, a band is applied around the stomach to create a small gastric pouch and a calibrated opening to the rest of the stomach. This limits the amount of food the stomach will hold and controls the flow of food to the digestive tract.
